A2G2 – The Best Diet

You’ve decided you’ve had enough…it’s time to lose some weight, get yourself back in shape, and you hop online and start looking into different diets and eating plans.

Your search brings back a TON of results:  Paleo, Ketogenic, Vegetarian, Vegan, Carnivore, Mediterranean, Intermittent Fasting just to name a few.

The amount of different diets that are out there is astounding and it can be truly overwhelming finding the one that’s right for you.

One of the first things I recommend doing is getting a food sensitivity test done to make sure you don’t have any food allergies or sensitivities. You can read a little more about that here.

Here’s a really quick and basic overview of some of the more popular diets out there…again, this is a quick overview and if anything listed interests you, dig deeper and do some more research to see if it’s right for you.

Paleo Diet – If you can pick it, hunt it or catch it, you can eat it.  No sugar, processed food, grains, legumes, dairy.

Ketogenic or Keto Diet – Low carb and high fat.  Very similar to the Atkins Diet.

Vegetarian Diet – No meat, fish or poultry.

You can go vegetarian or vegan.

Vegan Diet – Similar to the vegetarian diet but no products that come from animals are eaten.

Carnivore Diet – You eat meat and almost nothing else (you can have eggs).

You can eat nothing but meat.

Mediterranean Diet – Based on traditional foods eaten in Italy and Greece.  Eat lots of vegetables and fruits, nuts, seeds, fish, seafood, and olive oil.  Dairy such as eggs, yogurt, and cheese can be occasionally eaten and poultry and red meat can be eaten once in a while.  No sugars or processed foods though.

Intermittent Fasting – Not really a diet…more of an eating pattern.  You can combine Intermittent Fasting with any other diet or just select an eating window and eat whatever you want only in that window and eat nothing at all (hence the fasting) outside of that window.

Which one is the best or most effective?  Honestly, there’s no definitive answer.  There’s plenty of research on all the diets listed above and proponents of each one will tout their health benefits and claim their way is the best way.

At the end of the day, the BEST diet is the one you can follow and stick with.  If you can select the diet or eating plan that best suits your personal needs and requires the least amount of effort for you to follow, you’ll be more likely to stick with it.
